The LDAPControl (http://drupal.org/project/ldapcontrol [^]) module should be used instead of LDAP provisioning (http://drupal.org/project/ldap_provisioning [^]) in order to return back to the one-step registration. This module in contrast to the "LDAP provisioning" does not replace the standard registration mechanism of Drupal, so all Drupal settings regarding to registration process will preserved (in particular the facility to set the "one-step registration" option).
But the only issue is there: all the additional fields that we use (Full name, Additional information) seems do not function. Meantime, I sent a bug-report about it to module developers and if they do not answer me, I'll fix it yourself.
